Davy Mountain was recently cleaned up, both the Wyoming County and the McDowell County sides, according to Commissioner Silas Mullins, pictured. The illegal dump site was cleaned up through the efforts of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the Wyoming County Commission. “The mountainside was a local dumping ground for years,” Mullins said, adding that has changed now. “Slowly, but surely, illegal dump sites all over Wyoming County are being cleaned up.” Mullins noted additional sites, including Huff Mountain, are scheduled for clean-up in the coming months. In the top photo, some of the debris is pictured after having been brought to the roadside for pick-up. Accumulating garbage, trash, paper, litter, refuse, cans, bottles, discarded furniture, appliances, tires, construction and demolition materials, among other items in yards, on road ways, or in streams is illegal. To report these open dumps, contact the Wyoming County Litter Control program at 304-732-8000, extension 421, or contact commissioners Silas Mullins Jr. at 304-732-8000, extension 288; Larry Mathis at 304-682-4834, or Jason Mullins at 304-673-9019.
