Black lung benefits are the focus of meetings the second Monday of each month in the Mullens Opportunity Center, or former Mullens Grade School building, from 5 until 6 p.m. Specialists are available for questions and to assist those who want to apply for benefits. Everyone is welcome.

Brenton Public Service District meetings are conducted the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the PSD office. Meetings are open to the public.

Captain Ralph Stewart Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Guyandotte Baptist Church in Jesse. Center Public Service District meetings are conducted the first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. at 100 R.D. Bailey Highway, in Mullensville. Meetings are open to the public.

Disabled American Veterans’ van is providing transportation to the VA Hospital in Beckley by phoning Frank Sizemore at 304-732-6140 or 304-585-7738. Two days prior notice is needed for transport on the DAV van. Volunteer drivers are also needed; to volunteer phone Sizemore.

Eastern Wyoming Public Service District meetings are conducted the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the water plant in Stephenson. Agendas are posted 72 hours prior to the meeting, according to a spokesperson. Meetings are open to the public.

Oceana Public Library’s Story Hour Program for preschool children is underway. Activities are conducted for an hour, including stories and games, each Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. until noon. This free, fun program is for three- and four-year-old children, (two-year-olds, if they will sit and listen) and includes read aloud story books, silly songs, games, puppet shows, crafts, parties, and other activities. U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins’ mobile office staff will be at the Wyoming County Council on Aging, located at 695 Mountaineer Highway in Mullens, Wednesday, April 19, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to assist residents who are having problems with federal agencies and programs. Constituents are encouraged to bring documents they have received from federal agencies related to their issues.

Veterans in Wyoming and McDowell counties who may need assistance with VA disability claims or other free services are urged to visit the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance in Welch, at 90 Howard Street on the second floor of the library, or phone 304-436-3804. Wyoming County Abandoned Building Agency members meet the first Tuesday of each quarter – in January, April, July and October – at noon in the county commission offices, located in the Wyoming County Courthouse Riverside Complex, located in the former Pineville Riverside School building, adjacent to Palisades Park.
