Prom dresses

Rachael Church and Makayla Griffey examine dresses sold during last year’s Prom Dress Project at Wyoming County East High School. As part of the project, dress owners may sell their dresses and/or accessories, or may donate them to a student who needs them, according to Donna Wikel, project coordinator. Those who have prom dresses or accessories to donate or to sell are urged to bring them to Donna Wikel at Wyoming County East High School, and include your name, phone numbers, asking price, size, and a brief description of the dress and/or accessories.

Wyoming County East High School is again hosting the Prom Dress Project, an effort help girls get prom dresses and accessories for the annual prom.

“Costs of prom gowns have increased so much that some girls cannot afford to attend,” explained Donna Wikel, project coordinator.

It also allows dress owners to recoup a portion of the cost of a dress and accessories she may never wear again, according to a spokesperson.

Prom dresses can be brought to the school, then sold for a small fee or donated to students who need them, Wikel said.

Accessories are also needed, including shoes, slips, jewelry, and shawls.

“The owners of the dresses receive the money from sales, so they can purchase needed items for prom,” she said.

“This is not a fundraiser for the school or any group at the school,” Wikel emphasized.

Those who have prom dresses or accessories to donate or to sell are urged to bring them to Donna Wikel at Wyoming County East High School, and include your name, phone numbers, asking price, size, and a brief description of the dress and/or accessories.

A prom dress fashion show, in which the students will model the dresses, is also planned.
